Everyone has heard of Thor, Odin and Freya, but who were they, what were their attributes and
what were their respective roles in Valhalla?
These little books are meant to shed light, if only a small ray,
on each of these gods.
Beautifully designed, they make an ideal gift or souvenir - and the price is no less
attractive than the design.

The earth was his mother and Odin was his father. Might and strength were Thor’s characteristics; by these he dominates every living creature. Thor rides in a chariot drawn by two goats and for this reason he is called Thor the charioteer.
Thor owns three precious things.
One is the hammer Mjolnir, which the frost ogres and cliff giants fear when raised.
His second great treasure is a belt of strength, and when he buckles that on, his divine might is doubled.
And he owns a third thing of great value in his iron gauntlets that he can’t be without when he
wields the mighty Mjolnir. |

Odin created the heaven and earth and the sky. Odin lives forever and ever, and rules over his kingdom and governs all things great and small. Odin is called All-Father because he is the father of all gods. Odin gave his eye to Mimir, the guardian of the well of wisdom, so he’d be allowed to drink from the well. Therefore Odin has only one eye. His greatest accomplishment was in creating the human being, to whom he gave a soul that lives on and never dies. All righteous people
come and join him in the afterlife in Gimli or Valhalla and evildoers descend down to Hel. |

Freya is the most renowned of the goddesses.
She owns that homestead in heaven known as
Folkvangur and whenever she rides into battle
she claims half the slain warriors and Odin the
other half. When she goes on a journey she sits in a chariot drawn by two cats. She is most readily invoked. From her name derives the polite custom of calling the wives of men of rank “Fru”. She enjoys love poetry and it is good to call on her for help in love affairs. |
